An evocative collection of short fiction that has stayed with me in the months since I finished it is Almost Famous Women by Megan Mayhew Bergman–a collection of poignant stories about eccentric and fascinating women and the fleeting, often haunting nature of fame. With protagonists as varied as Oscar Wilde’s drug-addled niece, Edna St. Vincent Millay’s sister, and the reclusive artist Romaine Brooks these women will remain in your thoughts long after turning the last page.
