    Dawn of Dynasty

Book Discussion, Reception & Signing with Frank Strauss

    Thursday, September 18th, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

With the imminent dismantling of fabled Yankee Stadium, a new book by Frank Strauss, Dawn of a Dynasty: The Incredible and Improbable Story of the 1947 New York Yankees, provides readers with a nostalgic look back at one of the most memorable seasons in the history of the legendary ballpark. Dawn of a Dynasty recalls the author’s memorable meeting with Babe Ruth and features the game-by-game exploits of the players who brought New York City its first post-war championship.

A graduate of Antioch College, Frank Strauss has spent over fifty years as a journalist and public relations director. Growing up in New York City as a rabid Yankee fan, he now divides his time between New York and Litchfield County.

A wine & cheese reception will follow the event.

This is a gluten-free blog

Posted by oliverwolcottlibrary on September 13, 2007

Many people have been changing their diets to gluten-free for a variety of reasons.  I enjoy cooking from scratch and find that cooking gluten-free is not as difficult as many people assume.  My husband and I began consciously eating gluten-free about a year ago for health reasons.  We’ve found gluten-free cooking not only to be easier than people perceive, but tasty and healthy.  We’ve noticed how much better we feel after eating our home-cooked, gluten-free meals.  Click here for a list of grains with and without gluten.  Here are some resources I’ve found helpful:

Nourishing Traditions: This is my all-time favorite cookbook because it’s all about making things from scratch which I am passionate about. It has an interesting section on grains, which will help you understand how grain digestion works. It also has a section on food allergies. I recommend this book to anyone & everyone.

Wheat-free, Gluten-free: This is a great resource when you want a treat or you’re really missing something specific, like chicken nuggets. It also has a vegetarian section.

Kids with Celiac Disease: This gives a full explanation of Celiac’s Disease with many helpful suggestions for the home. One thing I really liked about the author is that she emphasizes that once you get the hang of it, you realize that it’s not that hard to live gluten-free.

Special Diet Solutions: This is great for people who are avoiding gluten along with other foods such as dairy & sugar. This book has a lot of good information about allergies. Also there is a chart in the back which has the characteristics of different alternative flours which is very helpful in determining which flour would be best for what type of food you are preparing.

Don’t worry! It’s not as hard as you think! J
